Non-NHS Services and Fees

Some services requested by patients fall outside of core NHS work and are therefore classed as private (non-NHS) work. This includes requests for doctors to complete forms, write letters, or provide medical reports that are not part of your NHS care.
As these tasks must be completed in the GP’s own time and do not form part of their NHS duties, there is no obligation for a GP to undertake this work.
Examples of Non-NHS Work
Some of the most common non-NHS requests include (but are not limited to):

Life assurance paperwork

DWP (Department for Work and Pensions) reports

Medical reports for adoption or fostering

Letters for airlines or private organisations
Turnaround Time
Due to heavy clinical workloads, we ask that you allow 6–8 weeks for the completion of any non-NHS forms or reports.
Even simple forms may require the GP to review your full medical history. Mistakes or omissions could have serious implications for both patients and doctors, including with professional regulatory bodies such as the General Medical Council (GMC).
Forms are completed strictly in order of the date they are received, to ensure fairness for all patients.
Fees and Charges
Non-NHS work is chargeable. Fees are set based on British Medical Association (BMA) guidance, and may vary slightly depending on the nature of the request and the GP involved.
We ask for a non-refundable deposit of £30 to begin the process. Unfortunately, in the past, work has been requested and prepared but not collected, incurring costs for the surgery.
If your request is unusual, we can provide a quote in advance once the GP has reviewed it.

Fitness to Participate Forms
Unfortunately, our GPs are unable to complete private “fitness to participate” forms for activities such as:

Sporting events

Charity challenges
-
Leisure pursuits
These assessments often require specialist knowledge, formal testing, and specific insurance arrangements which are outside NHS services and not part of our GP contract.
