Appointments

Who do I see?

Routine appointments

To request a routine (ongoing) appointment, please complete our Total Triage form.

This helps us understand your needs and ensures you are booked with the most appropriate clinician.

You can access this form from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

We advise patients that there is self help advice on our website and the NHS website. Pharmacists can also be very knowledgeable and helpful.

We also offer locum doctor appointments through Enhanced Access (B&H Federation).

You can now request an appointment that may occur outside of practice working days or hours. These include telephone and face to face appointments with a GP, nurse, pharmacist, or health care assistant. There are also specialised clinics including a Menopause Clinic.

Please note that face to face appointments with this service may be held at a different location to your usual practice.

If you are interested in this service, please contact us for further information.

Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nurse, Health Care Assistant, and Blood Test Appointments

We have practice nurses at the surgery every day. Our Health Care Assistant has clinics four days a week and the Phlebotomist’s (who take blood) have clinics 4 mornings a week. You can book appointments for our Nurses, Health Care Assistant, Phlebotomist, and Pharmacist in advance. Please note that this is only a guide and subject to change due to staff leave or illness.

For more information on our available nurses, please visit our Practice Staff page.

Nurse Appointments

Urgent Appointments

To request an urgent appointment, please phone the surgery as early as possible.

If your problem is urgent, please call the surgery as early in the day as possible. This allows us to assess and arrange appropriate same-day care.
Do not use the online form for urgent medical concerns, as it may delay the care you need.

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with so we can direct you to the right healthcare professional.

You can speak to any of our doctors at the surgery for a routine appointment. Appointments for nurses, advanced nurse practitioner, paramedic, health care assistant, phlebotomist, physiotherapist, or pharmacist appointments can be made several weeks in advance.

For more information on our available doctors, please visit our Practice Staff page.

Cancelling your appointment

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.

You can cancel by:

  • Calling the surgery
  • using your NHS account (on the NHS website or the NHS App)

If you would like to change the date or time of your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible so we can rearrange this.

Total Triage

Here at Saltdean and Rottingdean Medical Practice, we offer a wide range of appointments and services to support your healthcare needs. To ensure you are seen by the most appropriate healthcare professional via the right method, as quickly and fairly as possible, we now operate a Total Triage system.

Total Triage means all appointment requests are reviewed and triaged by the team first. This helps us direct you to the most suitable healthcare professional, whether that’s a GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Paramedic, Nurse, Healthcare Assistant, Phlebotomist, Physiotherapist, or Pharmacist.

This change ensures:

  • Urgent needs are dealt with quickly

  • Routine care is managed efficiently

  • You are seen by the most appropriate clinician for your concern

  • Access is fairer for everyone – no need to call or queue early in the morning

How to Submit a Request

We use AccuRX Triage, a secure and easy-to-use online query form that allows you to tell us about your medical or admin request.

This online form is available from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and can be accessed through our website or the NHS app.

If you don’t have a device or need help submitting this form, our reception team can assist over the phone or show you how to use a QR code available in the surgery.

Once submitted:

  • Urgent cases will be reviewed and responded to the same day

  • Routine requests will be handled within a suitable timeframe

  • You may be offered an appointment, advised to access a different service (e.g., pharmacy), or have tests arranged before your visit

FAQs

Do I need to download anything or log in?
No – just click the link and fill in the form. You can also use the NHS App if preferred.

How long does the form take?
You’ll be asked about your symptoms, how long they’ve been present, what help you need, and your preferred contact method.
Note: You will not necessarily get an appointment quicker by calling the reception team as all requests are passed to the triage team first.

Can someone else fill in the form for me?
Yes – a friend, family member, or carer can submit the form on your behalf. Just make sure they tick the box to confirm this on the form.
Note: We can only respond to them if we have your consent on file.

What if I don’t have internet or a smartphone?
Call the surgery and our reception team will help you complete the form over the phone.

I’m housebound – what do I do?
You can either submit a form or call the practice as usual.

Do I still need the form if I’ve been invited to book an appointment?
No – if you’ve been invited for a specific check (e.g. smear test, diabetes review, injections, etc.), just follow the instructions in the message and use the booking link provided or call us to book.

Will patients still have a choice of which clinician they see?
There is an option to specify which clinician the patient would like to see. We will try to meet this request, availability permitting.

What is self-book?
Our team may send you a text message inviting you to book your own appointment online.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible.

In this respect, if you do need a home visit you will need to contact the surgery BEFORE 11am on the day that you wish for the visit to take place.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls. The doctor will phone first before visiting.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
