Test Results

When you have a test (for example blood tests, urine samples, swabs, X-rays or scans), a clinician will advise you when the results are expected to be available.

How to view your results

Online (recommended)

  • NHS App / Online Services – if you are registered, you may be able to view test results and other medical information online.

  • Online Triage – you can request information about your results using our online triage service. Please select the option relating to “Test results / Admin request”.

By phone

  • You can call reception to ask if your results have returned.

How long do results take?

As a guide, results are usually available:

  • Blood tests: around 5 working days

  • X-rays / scans: up to 2 weeks

If you have a follow-up appointment booked, please check with reception that your results have arrived before your appointment where appropriate.

Important information

  • We do not routinely contact patients for normal results.
We will contact you if a result is abnormal, if further action is needed, or if a clinician has asked us to arrange follow-up.

  • Hospital / secondary care tests: We cannot provide results for tests requested by a hospital or other specialist service even if the sample was taken at this practice. Please contact the clinician or department that requested the test.

  • Confidentiality: For safety and data protection, we can only give results to the patient the results relate to, unless we have documented consent to share information, or the patient is unable to understand the results.

Discussing your results

If you have been advised to book an appointment to discuss your results, or you have ongoing symptoms or concerns, please request an appointment via online triage or contact the surgery.
