Self Referring and Active Signposting

There are many health and wellbeing services you can go to in Brighton and Hove without needing to see your GP first for a referral. Your local pharmacist can provide advice as well as treatments for minor ailments.

Receptionists at your General Practice are an important part of the practice team. A number of receptionists in the City are trained to be able to signpost you to some of these services if appropriate, to help you to see the right professional, first time, without adding a delay by seeing your GP first.

In order to do this, they are trained to ask you about the reason you require an appointment. You do not have to disclose this, however if you do, it may mean you get seen by the right professional sooner. If your practice receptionist offers you the opportunity to self-refer to one of these services but you would prefer to continue to request an appointment with a GP or nurse, they will be able to accommodate this as normal.
