Self-referral services

For some services you can refer yourself directly, without seeing a GP first. This is often the quickest way to get the right help.

Physiotherapy and muscle, bone or joint problems (MSK)

For problems with bones, muscles, nerves or joints, you can refer yourself to the Sussex MSK service.

Talking therapies for your mental health

If you are struggling with stress, anxiety or low mood, you can refer yourself to the NHS Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service for talking therapies and support.

Sexual health and contraception

For contraception (including the coil and implant), as well as testing and treatment, you can contact the Brighton and Hove Sexual Health and Contraception Service (SHAC) directly. Call 01273 523 388 or visit brightonsexualhealth.com.

Bladder and bowel problems

If you have problems with your bladder or bowel, such as leaking, constipation or needing the toilet more often, you can refer yourself to the Sussex Community Bladder and Bowel Service. Call 01273 265 912 or visit the Bladder and Bowel Service page. The team is based at Hove Polyclinic.

Stop smoking

You can get free help to stop smoking. The Brighton and Hove Healthy Lifestyles Team offers free one-to-one support and nicotine replacement therapy. Call 01273 294589 or visit the council’s stop smoking service. You can also use NHS Quit Smoking for online tools, or find other local services with the NHS stop-smoking service finder.

Weight management

If you would like free support to manage your weight, you can refer yourself to Gloji, the Brighton and Hove healthy weight service funded by the council. It offers programmes to help you eat well, get more active and lose weight. Sign up at brighton-hove.gloji.co.uk or call 0800 054 1190.

Drug and alcohol support

For confidential help with drugs or alcohol, you can refer yourself to the local service, Change Grow Live Brighton and Hove. Call 01273 731 900 or visit changegrowlive.org.
