Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you the right to ask for information held by public organisations, including GP practices. This page explains what we publish, how to ask for more, and how to complain.

What this covers

Freedom of Information covers general, non-personal information about how the practice is run, such as our policies, reports and some financial information.

It does not cover your own medical records. If you want a copy of your record, that is a Subject Access Request, not a Freedom of Information request. See How to ask for a copy of your record.

Information we publish

We have adopted the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) model publication scheme in full. It commits us to routinely publish information under seven standard classes:

  • Who we are and what we do, such as our team, contact details and opening hours.
  • What we spend and how we spend it, including how the practice is funded under its NHS contract.
  • What our priorities are and how we are doing, such as our latest Care Quality Commission report and any patient survey results.
  • How we make decisions, including the role of our Patient Participation Group.
  • Our policies and procedures, including confidentiality, data protection and complaints.
  • Lists and registers, such as our registration with the Care Quality Commission.
  • The services we offer, such as our clinics, appointments and prescriptions.

Much of this is already on this website. If you cannot find what you need, you can ask us for it.

GP net earnings

This is the statement we publish under “what we spend and how we spend it”.

The average pay for GPs working in Saltdean & Rottingdean Medical Practice in the last financial year was £94,817 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 1 full time GP and 10 part time GPs who worked in the practice for six months or more.

NHS England requires practices to publish this figure each year. However, the prescribed method of calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and it should not be used to judge GP earnings or to compare one practice with another.

How to make a request

Please put your request in writing and include your name, an address we can reply to, and a clear description of the information you want.

Write to the Practice Manager at Saltdean & Rottingdean Medical Practice, Grand Ocean, Longridge Avenue, Saltdean, Brighton, BN2 8BU. We will respond within 20 working days.

Charges

Information on this website is free. For some requests we may charge for photocopying, printing and postage. We will always tell you the cost before we start.

If you are unhappy with our response

Please contact us first so we can try to put things right. If you are still unhappy, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator for freedom of information. You can call them on 0303 123 1113 or visit ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
